After recently going back to my natural color, I’m on the path back to healthy, strong hair. I did a lot of bleaching to it within the last year in order to show off the vibrant purple I loved rocking, which did a number on my hair’s texture and resilience. Also, living in the desert means I’m constantly in need of moisture, especially with the cold and windy season approaching.

One of the ways I’m helping replenish and nourish my hair is with overnight hair masks. They’re a great way to get in some TLC for your hair when you don’t have time otherwise. I have a super easy 3-ingredient recipe that gives me soft and shiny hair while I sleep. It has also been essential in helping treat my flaky scalp which gets a bit out of control this time of year. Also, I want to share how I’ve been using my new Waterpik® BodyWand Spa System as the easiest way to rinse out hair masks– especially made of coconut oil!

What You Need:

2 tbsp of Coconut Oil: moisturizes, softens and adds shine to the hair. A couple drops of Tea Tree Oil: helps soothe scalp irritation and unclogs hair follicles to nourish the roots. A couple drops of Lavender Oil: adds shine and can help control dandruff

Directions:

  1. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave, in bursts of 10 seconds until completely liquid.
  2. Add the drops of essential oil
  3. You can either comb the treatment through your hair while it’s liquified, or place in the fridge for the oil to solidify into a balmy mask consistency, which is easier to scoop.
  4. Leave the hair mask on overnight. I tie my hair up in a topknot and put a towel over my pillow to keep things from getting messy. Rinse out in the morning.

While some people may complain about the process of rinsing out coconut oil from the hair, I have absolutely no issues when using my Waterpik® BodyWand Spa System. Newly available at Bed, Bath & Beyond, this shower head is designed to deliver a strong water flow. The BodyWand is perfect for rinsing my thick hair, especially with the PowerComb™ mode that shoots out a powerful, even stream that penetrates hair down to the root. The SoftComb mode is great for normal hair washing or deep conditioners, and the Gentle Rinse mode is what I use for body showers when I don’t want to get my hair wet at all.

Compared to my old shower head, I can rinse out even the thickest of hair masks easily with the BodyWand’s PowerComb™ feature because of how deep the stream gets into my sections thick hair. As I’m needing to touch up my hair color, it also works well to rinse out hair dye without splattering it everywhere! This thing is my hair’s best friend. Plus, the fixed mount shower head has a PowerPulse Massage mode that is perfect post-workout to soothe sore muscles. It’s a win-win!

You can find the Waterpik® BodyWand Spa System on Amazon.

I have an event coming up on Saturday night… Should I put this mask on Friday night and then rinse it out in the morning?

I’d probably do it Thursday and then rinse Friday just in case you need to double rinse. That way you’re not crunched for time.

Ooooh, I’d love the Water Pik Body Wand when I co-wash my hair!

The WaterPik sounds great. I have something built in to my shower but it doesn’t have strong enough pressure to rinse my hair this well. This would be a great alternative.
