Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation Review

There’s a new drugstore foundation on the scene that everyone’s buzzing about, and it’s just in time for summer. The Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation officially launches in June, but has been popping up in select stores already. The vast color range and good-for-your-skin ingredients have people wondering: is it the next drugstore holy grail?

The Vitalist Healthy Elixir is an oil-free liquid foundation that offers lightweight, full coverage. The formula is supposed to be hydrating with vitamins and SPF 20 to keep skin looking healthy. It has a medium consistency that’s easy to blend in, and not runny at all. However, I will give you fair warning that it is heavily scented with a floral fragrance— not something I typically enjoy in face products, though it hasn’t irritated my skin at all.

The formula is comfortable to wear and blurs the skin for a photo finish. Once it’s set, you’re left with a luminous skin finish that’s a little more glowy than demi-matte. It starts out with a strong medium coverage that can be built up quickly to full. If you’re really layering it on, however, it can take a bit of time to set.

According to Ulta Beauty’s description, the foundation is supposed to minimize the appearance of oily shine. However, I find that the hydrating formula is prone to shine throughout the day on my combo skin. I don’t know that I could recommend it for oily skin, because I definitely find myself needing to blot throughout the day in my t-zone.

I can’t deny how good it looks on the skin though. I feel like my imperfections are covered and blurred when I apply the Healthy Elixir. Fine lines are minimized, redness completely invisible and my skin texture looks smoothed out. For a full coverage foundation, there is no cake-face happening at all. Also, with SPF in the formula, I can feel good about wearing it outside as an addition to my other sun care. (Also to note, I don’t experience flashback with this foundation in photos).

L to R: Classic Ivory 710, Buff Beige 725, Nude Beige 735

On my combo skin, with my t-zone powdered, this foundation lasts about 9 hours on me before I can start seeing imperfections peek through. This is incredibly impressive to me for such a moisturizing formula.

I’d also like to point out that there are 14 shades total in this collection, a pretty large range for a drugstore foundation, though you might not find all shades in stores at once. On the Ulta Beauty website, they only go 6 shades in, though the CoverGirl website shows that the range does cater to some deep skin tones.

You can find the Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation popping up over the course of the next few months for around $12. I would personally recommend it for normal/combo/dry skin types… oilier faces may need to reinforce with powder throughout the day.

Have you seen the Healthy Elixir Foundation near you yet?

Is there any drugstore foundation that is the same as this, because we don’t have COVERGIRL in Ireland?

Hmm that’s hard to say! Do you have Neutrogena? One of my all time favorite drugstore foundations that is lightweight but offers great coverage is their HealthySkin line.

I bought this foundation in the Classic Ivory. The color is really good for me which is AWESOME because I seem to have a difficult time finding the right shade in any foundation. And, I am impressed by the slightly full coverage, yet at the same time it doesn’t seem too heavy. Also, gives a nice finish; a slight glow. What color foundation are you wearing in the photo? Is the Classic Ivory a warm or cool color?

I actually mixed Buff Beige and Nude Beige to get a shade right for me!
