Covergirl Outlast All Day Custom Reds Lip Color Review

There’s nothing better than a lipstick you can trust to stay put all day. With busy day to day schedules, and general heightening standards of beauty products, I generally have less and less patience for lipsticks that fade or smudge easily. So color me intrigued when I was introduced to the Covergirl Outlast All Day Custom Reds collection.

The Covergirl Outlast All Day Lip Color isn’t a new release— they’ve had this two-step lip kit for while, though I had never tried it before the new Custom Reds shade collection dropped this month. The kit contains an all-day color coat and a moisturizing top coat that boast 24 hour wear between their all-day color

The color only needs two coats to become opaque. The best application trick is to layer thinly, and let it completely before applying a second coat. After some testing, I also found that if you keep from pressing your lips together while drying, you can avoid patchiness. As it dries, it becomes rather matte and tight. That’s when you can apply the moisturizing top coat to add hydration and shine. Keep the balm nearby to touch up throughout the day if your lips start feeling dry. The balm makes these comfortable to wear, and despite being multiple layers they feel lightweight on the lips.

The Custom Reds collection is supposed to help you find the perfect red shade (or red-adjacent shade) for your skin tone. The categories are broken up into Light, Medium, and Dark, with two shades per tone. There is also a universal shade that will work across skin tones. Of course, I believe you can rock any of these shades regardless of your complexion. I love going into the “deep” shades when I want a more dramatic look, or the “light” ones for a spring-ready lip.

From left to right above, the shades are:

  • Custom Coral (Light Skin Tone Suggestion)
  • Orange-U-Gorgeous (Light Skin Tone Suggestion)
  • You’re On Fire! (Medium Skin Tone Suggestion)
  • Your Classic Red (Universal Shade)
  • Signature Scarlet (Medium Skin Tone Suggestion)
  • Extraordinary Fuchsia (Deep Skin Tone Suggestion)
  • Unique Burgundy (Deep Skin Tone Suggestion)

To see the shades swatched on my lips, and how they wear throughout the day, watch the video above!

So did they indeed last all day? Yes and no. There was absolutely no fading or transferring throughout the day, and they were comfortable to wear with the help of the balm. However, eating was another story. I experienced flaking on the inside part and middle of the lips after each meal. Granted, it looked much better than other lipsticks after eating– I am often left with only a thin line around my lips of the day’s shade– but they still did need reapplication to fill in the patches. It was also easy to apply, compared to other liquid lipsticks. I just swiped a thin layer onto the part that had flaked off, and it looked good as new. It didn’t look uneven or obvious that it was filled in after the original application. As for the other 80% of my lips, they looked great. The middle and outer parts were intact and looked fresh.

Final verdict: I would definitely trust these to last hours on me, but still have to check my compact after a meal to see if it needed help. You can find the CoverGirl Outlast All Day Lip Colors for $9.99 per kit.

Have you tried the CoverGirl Outlast All Day Lip Colors? What was your experience?

Hi! Thanks for the review. I picked up one of these last week and I love how long it lasts! Did you use a lip liner at all with the liquid?

Nope! Just used the product on its own!
