BRÖÖ: Drugstore Beer Shampoo & Conditioner

Do you all remember a few years ago, when the latest beauty hack going viral was washing your hair with beer? It’s a trend that actually started way back in the 60s, when Jackie Kennedy said in an interview that she rinsed her hair with beer for more body. The trend cycled in and out through the years, as they do, but the tests all came back consistent: it totally worked for soft, voluminous hair.

The secret is the proteins and vitamin B in the barley and hops, which coat your hair to help strengthen it. The alcohol cleanses while the sugars give your hair an incredible shine and softness. Damaged hair can feel new again and fine hair gets a little extra oomph after a cold one!

So why isn’t this trick more popular? Well, the obvious: you’ll smell like beer unless you use a ton of shampoo and conditioner while rinsing it out, defeating the purpose. Luckily, there’s a happy medium to get all the benefits and then some, and it’s just a Walmart run away.

BRÖÖ is the latest drugstore hair care brand on the scene, and you don’t even have to be over 21 to enjoy it. It has been a long time since new shampoo & conditioner has really wow-ed me, but this brand managed to do it in just one wash. With the main ingredient in their products being all-malt, freshly-hopped craft beer, you’re getting all those boozy benefits in a formula that you’ll hair will love.

There are three lines on tap from BRÖÖ: Moisturizing, Invigorating and Thickening. All formulas are all-natural, made with premium ingredients and leave out sulfates, parabens, phthalates, silicones, dyes, artificial fragrance, and more to keep it as clean as possible. It’s color safe, vegan, made in the USA and totally guilt-free.

Before BRÖÖ

I naturally gravitated toward the moisturizing shampoo and conditioner duo, as the desert has been sucking the life out of my hair (see above). It’s made with beer, shea butter, caffeine, and BRÖÖLuxe, which is a natural alternative to silicone to maintain the moisture in the hair. Upon first application, I was very happy to report that it didn’t smell like a fraternity house party. It had a bright, fizzy scent that reminded me of a sweet cocktail.

Despite being sulfate-free, this beer shampoo has a great lather to it, making it easy to spread over the scalp. When it was time for conditioner, I was surprised to see how rich it was— I knew my thick hair didn’t need more than a dollop. I let the conditioner sit as I shaved my legs, and when the time came to rinse, it seemed like my hair had absorbed most of it!

After BRÖÖ

I let my hair air dry, as usual, and caught myself petting my hair a few hours later. Once I realized what an amazing job BRÖÖ had done, I literally ran from room to room telling people to feel my hair. Adam asked, “Why is it so soft?” and I yelled BEER SHAMPOO! as I ran to get another opinion. No joke, my hair felt after-salon soft. It also felt weightless and flowy, not weighed down at all. I went to go style it and it curled with ease— quickly and retaining its shine and moisture. I’m not exaggerating… I want to hide this from Adam so I can keep it all to myself! I’m officially a BRÖÖholic.

Luckily, BRÖÖ shampoos and conditioners are only about $6 at Walmart, so they won’t break the bank as I purchase and re-purchase them in the future. If you don’t believe me, invest the twelve bucks and just try it yourself. I really wish I could let you feel my hair through the screen. I’m genuinely so impressed with the short and clean ingredient list, the instant results and affordable price point— grab yourself a BRÖÖ, you won’t regret it.

Have you ever tried rinsing your hair with beer?

I tried beer in another lifetime and it was horrible! It’s good to know that they took the good and removed the bad. Your hair looks amazing now.

I’m having flashbacks to Body on Tap, the premier beer ‘poo and ‘dish of the seventies. These sound good and I love hydrating formulas, I’ll have to pick them up and give them a whirl.

This sounds awesome, and the bottles will definitely stand out when I try to look for them in the beauty aisles with their bold designs.

LOL, I remember the original trend in the late 60s, but I didn’t know it was attributed to Jackie! At that time, a beer rinse was recommended for dark hair, and as a blonde, I didn’t think it was for me. Glad to see the trend is back and mainstream now. Your hair looks fab as always!
