The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Drops Review

Is there anything more annoying than having a nearly-full bottle of foundation that’s not your shade? Especially when you’re shopping drugstore foundation, it can be hard to match makeup to your skin tone perfectly. I personally have a handful of foundations collecting dust in my drawers because they’re just a few shades off, so when The Body Shop launched their Shade Adjusting Drops, I was so ready to test them out.

Whether you’re paler than the lightest foundation on the shelf, or overshoot your shade every time, you can get a much more perfect match with just a few drops. What’s also great is that these drops neutralize the undertone of your foundation, so if it leans too warm or too pink, they will even it out so you don’t end up with a masked appearance.

Watch the video above for my full review, and to see the effect of the drops on my favorite foundation.

These drops are really easy to use, and give you good control as far as how much of the lightening/darkening formula you want to add to your foundation. Even when I add 5-6 drops in my most off-shade foundation, it doesn’t seem to change the consistency, wear time, or coverage. I’ve been using the lightening drops the most with my NYX HD Foundation, because I love the formula but it’s just a little too orange for me (see the effect a few drops of each has on the foundation in the video above). It’s also working well to help me use up my “summer” foundations, since I’ve lost a little color during winter and they’re still too tan.

As I mentioned in the video, each bottle costs $20, but there’s no way you have to pay full price. The Body Shop constantly has amazing sales and coupons on their website, like 40% off, or the infamous Buy 2 Get 2 Free.

I’m sure you’ll find a way to get these at a cheaper price without a problem, but either way, you hardly need a few drops to make a big difference in your formula so one .5 fl oz bottle will probably last you longer than a bottle of foundation. Also, these are still less than half of the price of the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops, which many people have said they use for shade-adjusting purposes. All in all, these have helped me make the most of makeup I’ve purchased that doesn’t match me, saving me money in the long run.

What do you normally do with foundation that doesn’t match?

What a great video, very information and I appreciated the swatches. Very cool, I totally want the lightening one. I always over shoot my skin tone! God what a pain, I don’t even know what my skin tone is, like ever. LOL.

This is amazing!!! I never buy the right color. And my skin darkens in the summer, so this will allow me to use the same bottle and adjust for the sun! COOLIO

My problem is that foundations are always too dark. I add Manic Panic Dreamtone in Virgin (white).
