Finding a swimsuit style that I feel comfortable and confident in has been a lifelong struggle. I have an “in between” body type— I don’t identify as thin or plus size… just somewhere in the middle. I’ve got a chest on the small side, but a round lower tummy that is hard to flatter. Plus… swimsuits are expensive, ya’ll! Especially if you want cute ones, and if pieces are sold separately.
Last year, I had a couple tropical vacations planned for Summer and Fall and I went on the hunt to find my perfect swimsuit. I decided to go for the high waisted trend to not only hold in my belly, but also help make my long torso more proportionate. I found two swimsuits perfect for curvy body types on Amazon that became my favorites, and I’m still rocking them this summer!
First up was this two-piece retro high waisted swimsuit bikini that is giving me all of the Bachelor in Paradise vibes! These have to be my absolute favorite bikini bottoms ever. They cinch my waist and hit me at just the right spot to accentuate my hips, but the ruching in front helps conceal my lower tummy rolls that I don’t like showing off.
I love that this swimsuit comes with both the bottoms and the bikini top, which is a whimsical ruffle moment. Spaghetti straps halter around your neck, and the top ties in back as well. I will admit that even with a smaller chest, I don’t get much support from this top. If you’re looking for lift, this isn’t the style for you. I think it’s the best swimsuit for pear shaped bodies as it comes, and I’m wearing a size large, which fits US sizes 6-8 (I’m an 8). This style comes in a bunch of different solid colors as well as patterns, so if you’re not feeling the rose, there is probably another option you’ll love. It’s only $26.99 on Amazon and made very well. This swimsuit has gotten a lot of love on two international vacations and still fits like new a year later.
The second style I picked up from the same brand on Amazon was actually this retro backless one piece swimsuit. Before buying this, I hadn’t worn a one piece since I was a kid. I just didn’t think they were flattering on my body shape, and always thought they made me look super front and bottom heavy. But this one does the exact opposite. Again, this style comes in a bunch of different colors and patterns but the stripes do some crazy voodoo to elongate my body and accentuate my curves without making my rolls look bigger.
This swimsuit is totally and completely backless, and you just have two panels of fabric that tie around the neck to cover your boobs (you’ll have a lot of sideboob action going on!). There are removable cups in the lining to help the fabric contour your chest, which I have found super helpful. Now of course, my biggest concern was accidental nip-slips, but even shimmying my hardest didn’t dislodge one of my girls. I also recommended this style to a friend who has a much larger chest than I do, and she raved about how it fits. You can check the reviews to see other big-bust ladies who love it. In this style, I went for a size medium, which fits US sizes 4-6. I honestly don’t remember my reasoning by purchasing a different size considering both suits came from the same brand, but it fits comfortably anyhow. This one is also only $26.99 on Amazon.
I am so stoked that these curvy body swimsuits worked out so well for me, and at such an affordable price! They’ve far exceeded my expectations and are probably two of my favorite Amazon purchases in recent history.
