August 2014 Beauty Box 5 Review

Well happy Tuesday, my friends! I was feeling a bit sick over the weekend, but the arrival of my Beauty Box 5 helped cheer me up.

August 2014 Beauty Box 5 Review

The theme of the August 2014 Beauty Box 5 is “radiant and remarkable.” There was a nice little variety of products in the package, so let’s take a look inside!

    Unboxing & Product Descriptions:

    Product Breakdown:

    1. Purlisse Pur~Protect SPF 30 (Sample Size, Retail: $55)
Okay, so can someone tell me how to pronounce this? Ha, ha. No matter what season we’re in, sun protection is a must. This is a lightweight moisturizer that soaks into the skin without leaving a dewy finish (score!). It has a subtle fresh scent with a hint of classic sunscreen smell.

    2. La Fresh Travel Lite Makeup Remover Wipes (Sample Size, Retail: $19.99)
I’ve pretty much stopped using makeup remover wipes altogether once I found out about reusable makeup cloths, but I thought I’d give these ones a go. The first thing I noticed was the strong fragrance, which may be irritating to some people. Also, it left my eye area and parts of my cheeks with a stinging sensation, which I wasn’t down with. I think I’ll stick with my antibacterial cloths.

    3. Nanacoco Lip Gloss in Carmel Latte (Full Size, Retail: $3.99)
This was a fun little find from a new brand to me. After some research, it seems that Nanacoco can mostly be found in independent beauty shops (correct me if you’ve seen their products in other places!). I really like this shade! It’s pretty nude on me and has a really shiny finish. It’s on the thicker side with a slight tackiness to it, but it’s not uncomfortable.

    4. Novex Brazillian Keratin Deep Conditioning Treatment (Sample Size, Retail: $19.50)
I’ve talked about this conditioner countless times between my blog and YouTube channel. It’s one of my favorites, plain and simple. You can find it for $14.99 on the Sally Beauty website.

    5. Style Essentials Nail Polish (1/4 of Full Collection, Retail: $7)
This is a fun glitter top coat with many different aqua blue and white shapes. I think it’d look great on top of green or pink nail polish. Glitter top coats are really fun ways to add interest to a manicure when you don’t have the patience or skill for nail art.

I’m not overly impressed with this month’s box, but there are a couple highlights. My favorite is obviously the extra packet of Novex. No mainstream products this time, but it’s always fun to discover new brands like Nanacoco! I’ll have to keep my eye out for them.

It seems like the HALFOFF coupon code is still active until August 21st, so rush over here to get your first Beauty Box 5 for only $6!

EDIT: GOOD NEWS! There’s a code to get this box free! Head here and use code AUGUSTFREE at checkout before 9/21 when you sign up for any subscription.

Which of these items would you like to try?

    1. I wasn’t very impressed with this box either, but that’s pretty rare for BB5. Usually I like their boxes a lot better.

    2. My box arrived Monday I think but I haven’t gotten around to opening it yet. I’m excited to see what shade of Nanacoco I got so I need to go take a peek. I hope I have the Novex and polish too!

    3. Hmmm… that lip gloss looks nice. I’m not a fan of la fresh wipes, they made my eyes burn so bad I couldn’t get my contacts in for a few days. But everything else seems really nice.

    4. Oh, I wish I had gotten that Novex sample! I might just order the tub, though. If it works for your hair, it’ll probably work for mine. I had heard of Nanacoco before, but only their nail polish. I found them in a hole-in-the-wall beauty supply store, for cheap, cheap, cheap. I wrote a post about it a while ago because it was the worst-smelling polish I’d ever come across. Ever. So, I was pleasantly surprised by the lip gloss!
