5 Ways to Change Your Hair Without Cutting It

If you’ve ever been traumatized by a less-than-qualified hairdresser, the thought of going to the salon might give you a bit of anxiety, as it does to me! My last trip to the salon in June was a disaster and I haven’t had my hair cut since (although I do have an appointment for this Friday… aaaah).

If you’re not in desperate need for a trim like I am, however, you might want to entertain different ways to change your hair without cutting it. Not only will you save money by skipping a trip to the salon, but you also won’t have to make a commitment to any one style.

ways to change your hair without cutting it

1. Switch Your Part
You’ll definitely have a lot of people giving you the “Your hair looks different… but I can’t put my finger on it…” Switching your part may feel really weird at first, but it can give you that subtle update to your ‘do while still accommodating your current cut. You’ll probably need the help of a blowdryer, since your hair might have trouble lying in a new direction at first.

2. Clip in Bangs
Bangs are always an exciting change to our hairstyles, but they’re so difficult to maintain. Skip the stress and get yourself some clip in bangs— you’ll get all the benefits of having your own fringe without the awkward growing-out period.

3. Extensions
Talking about clip-in-hair, have you ever tried extensions? If you’ve got short to medium length hair, you can add some major drama with clip in extensions. Affordable clip ins are available at various beauty supply stores. Wearing extensions doesn’t only serve to add length; you can play with colors by adding smaller strands in different shades!

4. Faux Bob
We’re seeing it on the red carpet time and time again; the faux bob is a go-to for celebrities who want to change up their hair without committing to the cut. Great for layered hair, pull the longer layers into a pony tail and tuck them underneath the shorter layers, giving the illusion of a drastic cut!

5. Spray-In Color
You can add funky colors or natural looking highlights with spray-in color, which you can find at most drugstores. This is great for stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new, because at the end of the night you can just wash it away! It also won’t damage your hair, so you can play around with a lot of different looks without putting your hair through the ringer.

What tricks do you have up your sleeve to refresh your old hairdo?

Great tips Miranda! I used to do faux bob too. And because going to the salon is pricey, I learned how to cut my own hair.

This is too fun! I love your ideas. I am desperately trying to grow out my hair, and I so needed a change, so I just went for it and got full bangs. I’m loving them! I also colored it black… nothing temporary for me, apparently. Thanks for sharing!!

I haven’t had bangs in a while – hello ’80’s CLAW! lol. Maybe clip-ins would be fun to try. I have some bold colored extensions I like to use now and again, too.

I’ve never heard of clip in bangs but I need to find some of those. I know I would regret getting them but I kinda want to experiment

I’m too scared to actually cut bangs, but I’ll have to give clip in bangs a whirl. 🙂

My signature used to be side-swept bangs but I hate how they would always get in my eyes. I think I want to get clip-in straight bangs!

I really want to change my color but don’t know what to do with it. I won’t look good in a lighter color.

You could test it out with some spray-in color before taking the plunge!

I was looking on POPSUGAR about the celeb bob trend and how it “looks good on everyone” and I swear I totally can’t rock a bob. I look back at pics and I’m like wtf why did people not say anything lol

LOL! Are your top layers too thin for the look, maybe?
