3 Easy Eyeshadow Tutorials for Dark Lipstick

I think I’ve decided that fall is my favorite season when it comes to makeup looks. Ya’ll know that I love sultry and smokey eyes, which tend to pop up more toward the end of the year, but I especially like being able to pull of dark lipstick shades on the daily!

Some people are a bit hesitant to rock a vampy lip, for fear of overwhelming their look. Specifically, it can be a bit daunting to try to pair a deep lipstick with eye makeup. Today, I’m going to show you three different eye looks you can wear with daring dark lips with confidence!

FYI: For these looks, I used Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Black Cherry.

3 Easy Eyeshadow Tutorials for Dark Lipstick

Statement

This look keeps the eye makeup pretty lightweight to showcase your lipstick as the statement of the face.

  1. Start off with primer; I used the Coastal Scents Step One Eye Primer.
  2. For the eyeshadow, I used Rimmel Glam’Eyes HD 5 Colour Eye Shadow in the palette Brick Lane. I placed the medium brown shade between the crease and brow bone as a transition shade.
  3. With a pencil brush, I very lightly applied the dark brown in the crease for a little definition, and softened the line with a fluffy blending brush.
  4. I used the taupe color on the rest of the lid, and the light champagne as a highlight under the brow and in the tear duct.
  5. Using the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl pencil in Black, I tightlined my upper waterline to give the illusion of thicker lashes.
  6. After curling the lashes, I defined and lengthened them with the Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara in Carbon Black.

On its own, this is probably my favorite way to wear a dark lip, but these six steps serve as the base for the next two looks.

Perfect for: Class, Work, Daytime Activities

Balanced

For this look, we balance out the face by adding a little more intrigue to the eyes.

Follow steps 1-6 from the Statement look.

Using the Accent Brush from the Real Techniques Starter Kit, I applied a matte black eyeshadow to the upper lash line and outer third of my lower lash line. I slightly smoked the shadow-liner outwards from the outer corner in an almond shape.

Perfect for: Date Night, Girl’s Night, Special Event

Glam

When you really wanna go all out, smokey eyes are the way to go.

Start off by completing the steps from both the Statement and Balanced looks.

Darken up the crease and outer corner with a deep brown eyeshadow (I used the same one from the earlier Rimmel palette) using a fluffy blending brush.

Perfect for: Night Out, Party, Clubbing

I seriously encourage you to try out some dark lipstick shades this fall! I don’t know what it is about vampy lips, but they make me feel sassy!

Very pretty! I especially like the “glam” look. I’m definitely going to be brushing off some of my darker lipsticks soon … I think I have an unconscious desire to wait until it’s actually fall though?

Yeah, it’s really hard to get into fall looks here in SoCal, considering it’s been hovering around 110 degrees the past week. -_________-
