10 Photos for Woodsy Wedding Inspiration

It seems like rustic and woodsy weddings have become more and more popular in recent years. Probably because they’re romantic, quaint, and it’s easy to DIY your decor! It’s a good “theme” to pick without getting too cheesy, and it usually compliments outdoor weddings perfectly— especially if you have mountains and greenery as your backdrop.

Since I’m having a California mountain wedding myself, we’re definitely going to be incorporating some rustic elements. These ideas snapped from real weddings by our wedding photographer, Michael J. Costa, are totally inspiring me for our big day!

I am in love with this simple idea that makes a statement! Using a tree slice as a cake stand adds great decoration to otherwise simplistic cakes.

2. Thrifted Finds as Decor

These old suitcases, wall signs and dresser come together to create a cute scene dressed up with flowers.

3. Mason Jar Aisle Flowers

Photo by California mountain wedding photographer Michael J Costa | Slashed BeautyWhat’s a rustic wedding without mason jars? These are a great way to hang your aisle flowers, and you can paint them to match your color scheme! Add a little water inside to keep the flowers looking fresh if you’re setting up early.

4. Antique Doors as an Arch

You can find antique doors at local flea markets, thrift stores or salvage yards to add a one-of-a-kind touch.

5. Wood & Wheelbarrows

Use it as a backdrop for some of your accessory shots for a nice new-vs-old contrast.

6. Hand Carved Cake Topper

7. Pine Cone Cake Decor

Adding small pine cones are a free way to dress up your rustic cake. Just be sure soak them in a water/vinegar mixture for about a half hour, then bake them at 200 degrees for about 30 minutes to clean and de-bug them. Let them air dry for a couple days and you’ll be left with cake-ready cones! Or, you can just buy some on Amazon.

8. DIY Arch Decor

It definitely added a more “natural” feel to the iron arch provided by the venue!

9. The Veil Shot

If you’re having a rustic theme, try to find a weathered background that will make your accessories pop— like this hanging rake and wooden wall that makes the veil stand out.

10. Must-Have Scenery Shot

Photo by California mountain wedding photographer Michael J Costa | Slashed BeautyOne of my favorite types of pictures for mountain weddings that you have to add to your list is getting the wedding party in front of some greenery with the sun shining through. It’s such a magical ambiance that really highlights why you chose to have a woodsy wedding.

What great ideas. Personally I’d fear the pine cones on a cake even after baking but that’s because I’m a chicken about everything! You’re going to have a fabulous wedding day.
